Urban Life among Youth in Kisumu

This project aims to improve methods of data collection for sexual behavior among young men and women in urban Kisumu, Kenya. Using a life course approach, the project constructs retrospective relationship histories for a random sample of 1275 youth ages 18-24 and interviews these respondents' marital and nonmarital sexual partners to create a unique matched partner sample. Fieldwork spring and summer 2007.

Female Income and Family Welfare in India

This project examines the effect of female income on household decisions and outcomes, including child health and education, female reproductive health, and marital violence, among tea plantation workers in Kerala, South India. Data collection includes a survey of 3700 female workers undertaken in December 2002 - March 2003 and a qualitative component, consisting of in-depth interviews with 40 female workers and their husbands and 12 focus group discussions, conducted in January-February 2005.

Survey of Urban Life in Kisumu

This interdisciplinary research project examines marriage, nonmarital sexual relationships, and migration as sites for the exchange of resources in contemporary urban Africa. Data collection includes a survey of 2700 males and a qualitative component undertaken in Kisumu, Kenya, in 2001.
